Black Widow’s Brew: Cinnamon Buttercream Dark Roast - inspired by the crimes of Mary Ann Cotton
A deceptively sweet cup that hides a sinister secret. The buttercream smoothness lulls you in, while the sultry Dark roasted cinnamon coils around your senses like a venomous spider. This brew is inspired by Mary Ann Cotton-the notorious “Black Widow of Britain”-who left a trail of poisoned tea cups and lifeless bodies across Victorian England. Just as she masked deadly arsenic in sugar, this coffee cloaks its danger beneath sweetness. One sip whispers temptation. A second sip ensnares you. By the third, you are hopelessly trapped in her web.
1832 – Mary Ann is born in Low Moorsley, County Durham, England.
1850s–1860s – Marries several men, each dying mysteriously. Many of her children perish young as well - suspected poisonings.
1865–1872 –Pattern of “convenient deaths” continues; insurance payouts raise suspicion.
1873 – Her stepson Charles Cotton dies after tea laced with arsenic. This death finally leads to her arrest.
March 24, 1873 – Mary Ann Cotton is executed by hanging in Durham Jail. She is believed to have killed up to 21 people, making her one of Britain’s most infamous female serial killers.
